5 Sleep Hacks for Travelers

When was the last time you got a good quality sleep when traveling?

If it was recently, you’re one of the lucky ones because dreadful sleep while traveling is more common than not.

Don’t worry though, we’re here to help by sharing our top tips on how to get the most out of your Zzz’s on your next trip. These might seem simple and common sense, but trust us, test them out as we guarantee, you’ll get a better night’s rest next time you jet off.

1. Beat jet lag and adjust your bedtime before you leave

Don’t make a sudden, drastic change but over the course of the week before your trip, slowly adapt your bedtime to suit where you’re traveling to. A small change in your sleeping pattern can have a huge impact on the way you acclimate to your new location.

2. Eat and drink wisely on board

It can be tempting with the endless food and drink options but be moderate with your choices as your diet can be detrimental to your sleep. Oh, and don’t forget, alcohol and caffeine will always have a long term effect on your sleeping patterns.

3. Be a local!

This one is pretty simple… If you really want to adapt to your new location, eat, drink and live like a local.

4. Get some power naps

Everyone loves a good power nap. Especially when you’re traveling, put some time aside for some energizing power naps. Particularly while in transit, they can really help you to adapt to the timezone changes that you’ll experience.

5. Love the sun!

The sun is a critical aspect of a healthy sleeping pattern. The healthy blue light rays projected from the sun help to reset your circadian rhythms, making it easier to sleep at night and stay awake during the day. (Not to be confused with the harmful blue light emitted from our digital devices, which can have a detrimental effect on your sleep. For that, try Swannies blue light blocking glasses.)
