How The Effects of Blue Light Can Increase Your Risk of Cancer

How much time do you spend on your smartphone, computer or your laptop each day?

You might not even be aware of the effects of blue light on your health. Sitting in front of your devices all day long is pretty much a standard routine nowadays. So decreasing the time you spend looking at your devices can’t really cut it as a viable solution anymore.

But there must be something we can do to protect our health from the damages of blue light. Right?

Yes, there is! Let’s get into it.

Are you aware of the effects of blue light on your health? New study findings

A new study indicates that the blue light emitted from LED light, tablets and smartphones may increase the risk of developing cancer. With the frequency most of us use our devices, that’s an alarming discovery.

At Swanwick Sleep, we’ve long been aware of the damaging effects of blue light on sleep. That’s why we developed our Swannies blue light blockers to help reduce your exposure to blue light.

Can the Swannies blue blockers help reduce the risk of cancer too?

This study, published in the Environmental Health Perspectives Journal, was performed on approximately 2,000 breast and prostate cancer patients living in Barcelona and Madrid. The aim was to determine how artificial outdoor lights (such as street lamps) affected the participants’ health.

The results revealed the subjects who were exposed to higher levels of blue light had:

  • a shocking 1.5 times greater risk of developing breast cancer

  • an even more alarming 2 times greater risk of developing prostate cancer

The effects of blue light on cancer occurrence don’t end here

Blue light affects the production of melatonin in the body. Not only is melatonin valuable for sleep, but it’s also a powerful antioxidant. Maintaining an adequate level of melatonin in the body is crucial in order to fight the growth of certain types of cancer, specialists have discovered.

In a nutshell

If blue light disrupts the release of melatonin in your brain, your risk of developing cancer may increase. The good news is you can fight the effects of blue light that can harm your health.

Start using Swannies blue light blockers every day. They will  help you sleep better, and  may also have a multitude of health benefits in the long run, as these new studies suggest.
